Nail Surgery Procedures

There are few types of ingrown toenail operation for permanent removal of problematic nail partial or whole, where conservative treatment had failed.

These procedures are performed under a local anaesthetic to numb the area, making it painless.

Phenolisation Method, this procedure involves using a strong chemical known as phenol to burn the root. Currently this is the most popular option in the podiatric profession.

Incisional procedure is carried out with a scalpel to remove a portion of the nail root. This technique is known as matrixectomy, and is where the nail root is cut out, or “excised”. There are several incisional techniques such as Zadik, Forst and Winograd. Incisional procedures will require a suture closure/stitches.
